Jaws of Life Used to Remove Young Children Trapped in Car in Chesterfield Township

Two separate, multi-vehicle crashes took place Tuesday evening in Chesterfield Township.

Two young children and an adult family member were taken to the hospital this evening after a multi-vehicle crash on 23 Mile Road, according to Chesterfield Township police. The children, described by police as infants, were trapped inside the vehicle, leading emergency responders to cut the roof with the Jaws of Life. They are not believed to have suffered serious injuries at this time, police said. The crash took place around 5 p.m. Tuesday in front of Rosie O'Grady's when the car carrying the children was rear-ended by another vehicle, propelling the struck vehicle into two other cars, Officer Jason Brockdorff said that night. The issue is much bigger than "slow down". A traffic study needs to be performed on 23 MIle Road between Gratiot and Sass. That section of road, especially in front of Rosie O'Grady's has become increasingly dangerous. I've witnessed 2 accidents there in the last 4 days.   more ›

Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes into Vehicle, Sideswipes Police Car

The New Haven driver was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.

Chesterfield Township police are investigating a three-car accident involving a sheriff's patrol car late Wednesday at the St. Clair County-Macomb County border, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office. At approximately, 11:15 p.m., a St. Clair County Sheriff's patrol vehicle was traveling westbound on Marine City Highway en route to Interstate 94.  "The car was heading through the intersection of County Line Road when a vehicle heading eastbound went into the turn lane, struck a vehicle from behind, then veered into the path of the patrol unit," the Sheriff's Office stated in a news release. Eastpointe Man Dies in Chesterfield Township Crash

The one-vehicle accident took place overnight in the 26 Mile area, police said.

A 52-year-old Eastpointe man died in an overnight accident in the 26 Mile area in Chesterfield Township, police said Monday morning. Around 12:10 a.m. Monday, police responded to a 911 call from a homeowner who reported a 2006 Buick crashed into a ditch on the south side of 26 Mile road, just east of Scheuer. Police identified the driver as James Vanhevel who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Detective Sgt. Deron Myers, no other vehicles were involved in the accident and no witnesses are known. Investigators say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Driver Allegedly Dumpster Dives For Pills, Crashes Into Motorcyclist

A 32-year-old man who crashed into a motorcyclist in New Baltimore was in possession of multiple illegal prescription pills, police said. At approximately 4:45 p.m. Sept. 28, the GMC truck driver was seen by other motorists swerving before changing lanes at the same time as a Harley Davidson driver on Green Street north of County Line and crashing into the motorcycle. The impact caused the motorcyclist to get thrown about 15 feet from his bike, fracturing his left foot, according to a New Baltimore police report. When approaching the truck driver, the officer noticed him slurring words with pinpoint pupils indicating drug use. He admitted to having two Vicodin pills in his vehicle. UPDATE: Crash Kills Woman; Seriously Injures Another

Police continue to investigate a crash on 21 Mile Road Monday that killed a 51-year-old Shelby Township woman and injured a 73-year-old Macomb Township woman.

A 51-year-old Shelby Township woman died and a 73-year-old Macomb Township woman was seriously injured in a crash Monday just after 5 p.m. on 21 Mile Road, near the M-53 overpass. Earlier today, police had said in a press release that the crash on 21 Mile Road sent two people to the hospital in serious condition. However, a revised release reports that the Shelby Township woman died as a result of her injuries. Preliminary investigations reveal the Shelby Township woman driving a Chrysler Sebring was headed eastbound when she crossed over the center line to the left and hit a trailer, which was pulled by a vehicle heading westbound.
