Woman Accused of Fishing Thousands From Employer's Safe Pleads Guilty

The 21-year-old New Baltimore defendant is scheduled for sentencing next month.

A woman accused of stealing about $60,000 from her New Baltimore employer entered a guilty plea this month, according to Macomb County Circuit Court records. Taylor Klein, 21 of New Baltimore, pleaded guilty March 7 to felony embezzlement between $50,000 to $100,000 for the theft at Sunoco gas station on 23 Mile Road, the day her trial was to begin. Klein, who also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor possession of marijuana, is scheduled for sentencing April 18 before Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski. She is expected to pay $57,000 in restitution to the former employer, court records show. Her lawyer Donald Teichman Jr. said Wednesday it will be determined at sentencing if she will serve jail time and declined to further elaborate on the plea.  On…

New Baltimore Gas Station Embezzlement Case Heads to Macomb County Circuit Court

A New Baltimore woman faces embezzlement and possession of marijuana charges.

An embezzlement case stemming from a New Baltimore gas station was bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court. New Baltimore resident Taylor Klein, 21, waived her preliminary exam Jan. 2 in 42-2 District Court. Klein is expected to have a pretrial hearing and arraignment at the higher court in Mount Clemens Jan. 14 before Circuit Judge Mary Chrzanowski, according to court officials and records.  Klein faces a 15-year felony of embezzlement between $50,000 to $100,000 for allegedly stealing approximately $60,000 from her employer at the Sunoco gas station on 23 Mile Road. She is suspected of fishing cash out of the top of a safe deposit slip, police said. On Dec. 17, police responded to a report of $10,000 to $15,000 missing from the safe. …

New Baltimore Gas Station Clerk Found With Thousands in Stolen Cash

Police say the 21-year-old New Baltimore woman faces embezzlement and possession of marijuana charges.

A 21-year-old New Baltimore gas station clerk was charged Wednesday with embezzling at least $60,000 from her employer, police said Thursday. Taylor Klein faces a 15-year felony of embezzlement between $50,000 to $100,000 and a one-year misdemeanor of marijuana possession. Klein was arraigned in 42-2 District Court and placed on a $5,000 cash/surety bond, according to New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley. On Dec. 17 police responded to a report of $10,000 to $15,000 missing from the Sunoco Gas Station safe from over the weekend. Investigators checked surveillance footage and identified Klein as the suspect. The owner reviewed records for the past three months and determined $60,000 was unaccounted for, Wiley said. Court Brief: Hearing Rescheduled for Woman in Embezzlement Case

A final pretrial hearing has been set for a Chesterfield Township resident accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a St. Clair Shores senior suffering from dementia.

A pre-trial hearing in Macomb Circuit Court was adjourned Monday for a 26-year-old Chesterfield Township woman charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from an elderly St. Clair Shores man. Kellie Todd and co-defendant Fredine Walker are caretakers accused of stealing more than a combined total of $80,000 from William Abke, a 73-year-old wheelchair-bound resident who is suffering from dementia. Todd is charged with embezzlement of a vulnerable adult—a five-year felony. Walker, who pleaded guilty to two counts of embezzlement of a vulnerable adult, was sentenced in March by Macomb Circuit Court Judge Edward Servitto to a maximum of 10 years in prison for embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the elderly St. Clair Shores man. Health Care Worker Charged with Embezzlement to Stand Trial

A second woman accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a St. Clair Shores senior suffering from dementia will stand trial in Macomb Circuit Court.

A 26-year-old Chesterfield Township woman was bound over Tuesday to stand trial in Macomb Circuit Court on charges she embezzled thousands of dollars from an elderly St. Clair Shores man. Kellie Todd and co-defendant Fredine Walker are caretakers accused of stealing more than a combined total of $80,000 from William Abke, a 78-year-old wheelchair-bound resident who is suffering from dementia. They are alleged to have purchased thousands of items including groceries and furniture by using his credit cards. "(Kellie Todd is) is a worker who is paid to go in there and help him with his day to day needs," said Suzanne Faunce, chief of the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office Senior Crimes Unit.
