The motion picture 'Family Weekend,' or 'Queen Freak' as it may be titled, was filmed in Macomb County in February 2011.
Are you ready for your close-up, Macomb County? It's been almost two years since film crews descended on Macomb County to film Family Weekend, but rumor has it the comedy starring Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Modine, Shirley Jones, Oleysa Rulin and a cast of Macomb County extras will hit theaters in February 2013, according to the Chicago Tribune. The film features Rulin as a 16-year-old jump-roping champ who takes her dysfunctional parents hostage in an effort to transform them into an actual family. On Feb. 12, 2011, Macomb Patch editor Jenny Whalen joined more than 70 extras to film a variety of scenes at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores. Michigan’s hills are alive with the sounds of moviemaking. With the help of the Michigan film tax incentive, a project that was more than 10 years in the making came to life Wednesday with the world premiere of the Michigan-produced feature film, The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure, at the Emagine Movie Theater in Royal Oak. The interactive children’s movie, which was filmed in locations throughout Michigan including Stony Creek, a diner in Canton and the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan, has even deeper roots in the Great Lakes State. I was a writer and staff member for the company that produced the original My Bedbugs series. While it would have been great to be a part of the journey at this point as well, things didn't happen to work out that way. It is nice that some of the work we did lives on to an extent.
