Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a car fire late Monday afternoon in New Baltimore. Fire Chief Ken Lawfield said the driver was uninjured and the cause is not immediately known. The incident took place in the New York Deli parking lot off 23 Mile. A heavy cloud of smoke could be seen billowing from the flames before the fire was extinguished.

A con artist claiming to be a police officer from Mexico City tried to get an 86-year-old Chesterfield Township woman to wire him $1,850 via Western Union, according to an Oct. 30 police report. The caller told the woman that her nephew was under arrest in Mexico and, if she didn't send the money, he would be imprisoned for a long time. The would-be thief instructed her not to tell her family because her nephew didn't want them to know, police said. When the woman went to Walmart at 45400 Marketplace to wire the money, the employees there suspected it was a scam and notified police. They called the number that was given to the woman and someone answered the phone by stating it was the American Embassy in Mexico. After the employees hung up…

Chesterfield Township fire crews responded to a blaze Sunday afternoon at Jefferson and Riverpoint.
A Chesterfield Township marina fire left four boats damaged Sunday afternoon, fire officials said. By 2:40 p.m. fire crews had contained the blaze that is believed to have started when someone tried to shrink-wrap their vessel on the Anchor Bay Marina at Jefferson and Riverpoint. A torch used in the heating process ignited the flames that spread to other vessels. No one was injured. "Upon arrival we had three boats burning. We contained it. We did have damage to a fourth boat," township fire Capt. Richard Schroeder said at the scene. The boats each stretch more than 30 feet and the total amount of damage is not immediately known. A small fire occurred Monday morning inside Huntington Bank on Gratiot near 23 Mile.
Chesterfield Township firefighters responded to a small fire Monday morning inside Huntington Bank on Gratiot. Six firefighters from the three township fire stations put out flames around 7:10 a.m. and stayed on the scene for about two hours. They mostly encountered soot from a partially burned office space, including a desk and cubicle wall. The fire appears to have originated from a power box underneath the desk, Fire Chief Doug Charbonneau said Monday. The bank was cleaning and airing out the building, which is expected to remain closed for the day, Charbonneau said.

Dozens of units in a three-story apartment building on Hall Road have been damaged or destroyed following a massive Friday morning blaze at The Harbours Apartments.
At least four families lost their homes Friday when a second-alarm fire ripped through the third floor of Building 16 in The Harbours Apartments off Hall Road in Clinton Township. Five fire departments were called in to help the Clinton Township crews battle the blaze, which is believed to have started in the attic of the building shortly before 10 a.m. Friday. "St. Clair County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz determined the manner of death of Christopher Blewett was blunt trauma, involving the chest, primarily the heart," the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office stated. "The manner of death of Savannah Blewett was blunt trauma to the head, including the face, primarily involving the brain," the Sheriff's Office said.
