From family tradition to creating childhood memories, selecting a Christmas tree involkes strong emotions among holiday revealers. In Chesterfield Township, shoppers may find an array of real and artifical trees. Mangiapane Trees, which relocated from the Kroger lot to Premier Lanes, previously told Patch selecting a tree is often a family outing that leads to increased oxygen and pleasant aromas in the house. Some Patch readers recently said on our Facebook page they have opted to travel for their Christmas trees to places such as Shea Tree Farm in Marine City and American Tree Farm in Almont. Crime Blotter: Would-Be Toilet Thief Loses Clothes in Escape

Attempted Toilet Theft Goes Down the Drain A 25-year-old New Baltimore man tried to escape Home Depot with a stolen toilet and toilet seat on a flat cart, Chesterfield Township police said. At approximately 7 a.m. June 24, the unidentified man, known by store officials for previous retail fraud incidents, entered the store in the 23 Mile and Gratiot area. He selected a Kohler toilet and toilet seat and placed them on a flat cart before pushing the cart to the front of the store near the exit, police said. When an employee asked him to show the receipt, he left the cart and walked over to the complimentary coffee to pour himself a cup. He then bought light bulbs, returning to the cart to place the paid items on top of the toilet. He pushed …

Crime Blotter: Missing Store Loot Stashed In Employee Apron

Information on a slew of recent crimes was supplied by Chesterfield Township police. It doe not indicate conviction.

From the register to the apron A Home Depot employee confessed to stealing a total of $1,800 from the store register by placing cash in her apron pocket from May 12 to May 31, according to a late June police report. A store asset protection specialist reported that video surveillance was set up on the checkout area after cash shortages were discovered. The video captured the employee stashing the money from the register, police said. She later admitted to the theft, police said. Man begging for cab money gets free police ride A man begging for cash at the Speedway gas station so he could catch a cab ride wound up with a free ride from police, according to a police report. Pack your Patience Today: Major Construction Begins on 26 Mile Road

Construction is set to begin today on 26 Mile Road between Van Dyke Avenue and M-53.

If you thought it was congested on 26 Mile Road between Van Dyke Avenue and M-53 where major shopping centers have sprouted up in the past ten years, it’s only about to get worse. A $3.15-million construction project to widen 26 Mile from Van Dyke to M-53 from a four-lane boulevard to a six-lane boulevard is set to begin June 20.  The roadway affected is where Target, Home Depot and Meijer lie within a half mile of each other. Signage warning of major construction has been posted, but workers will get down and dirty on Monday.  The project is expected to wrap up on Nov. 1, 2011.
