Two empty storefronts have caught the attention of a sporting goods chain, according to the township.
Representatives from Dunham's Sports inquired this week about two empty storefronts in Chesterfield Township, according to the Planning Department. The large retailer was checking out the former Kmart on Gratiot near 23 Mile as well as the defunct Farmer Jack store in the nearby Target plaza, Assistant Planning Administrator Sherri Gisler said Wednesday. The Chesterfield Township store is set to close in two weeks.
The closing of longtime Chesterfield Township retailer, Big Kmart, is approaching. Sears Holding announced at the end of last year a slew of Kmart stores were set to close. Tell us in the comments where you will shop in the township once Kmart closes. Let us know why you picked that retailer or share other answers if they're not in the poll.

It has not been determined when the longtime Kmart on Gratiot will shut its doors.
The Chesterfield Township Kmart store did not make the cut. After disappointing holiday sales, Sears Holding announced Thursday the first list of Sears and Kmart stores set to close at an undetermined time. The longstanding Big Kmart on Gratiot in Chesterfield Township was among 79 stores on the list to close. On Tuesday, the retailer stated that 100 to 120 stores nationwide would shut their doors, but it did not say how many employees will lose their jobs in this cost-savings endeavor. Locally, shoppers told Patch Thursday they have been increasingly disappointed in the Kmart near them. When asked on the New Baltimore-Chesterfield Patch Facebook page whether they shopped there, readers were overwhelmingly in favor of other stores: Tell us…
