Music Festival Sounds Sweet to New Baltimore Businessman

Little Camille's By the Bay owner Mark Miller told New Baltimore City Council of his plans for the summer festival during the Monday night meeting.

Plans for a music festival in downtown New Baltimore are getting fine-tuned. Little Camille's By the Bay owner Mark Miller told City Council Monday night he is organizing the event scheduled for Aug. 10 in Burke Park. The council agreed to accept the concept, provided he gives specifics once they're available. The concert will have a mix of jazz, blues and grass music that the public will attend for an undetermined admission fee. Organizers are in the early stages of working with a charity and sponsors for partnerships, Miller said. He says the event budget is anticipated to be $10,000-$15,000. Councilman Jeffrey Christie noted that attendees could come by land and water, with the public boat docks expected to be in use by then.  …

Cool. The only thing I don't get is how do you enforce admission fees into a public park that is open from all sides? Or will this be a tented event?   more ›

Extend Kindness Branch With Anchor Bay Giving Tree

The Anchor Bay Community Giving Tree supports local families this holiday season.

As Christmas trees are erected throughout New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township, several of them represent a special kind of giving. The Anchor Bay Community Giving Tree offers the opportunity for local residents to buy and donate gifts for local families in need by Dec. 14. By late November, the giving tree was sponsoring 46 families from Macomb and St Clair counties, with more registering and qualifying each day, according to Sherry Lawfield, chairwoman of the Anchor Bay Community Giving Tree Holiday Charity Program. The giving tree is rooted in community partnerships that forged in 1999 when the giving tree committee joined a Macomb County Girl Scout troop and New Baltimore police to help underprivileged children during the holidays. …

Historic Downtown New Baltimore Now Boasts Outdoor Dining

Little Camille's By the Bay added a patio this month, bringing outdoor dining to downtown New Baltimore.

Dining al fresco with the breeze sweeping in from nearby Anchor Bay has become an option this summer in downtown New Baltimore. Little Camille's By the Bay, which officially opened April 1 on Washington Street, set up an outdoor patio in recent days and is working on obtaining permission from the state to serve alcohol on the patio as well, owner and chef Mark Miller said Friday. Since the patio is in the historic district, it required approval from the city's Historic Commission, Planning Commission and City Council. The total process took about two months, but city officials ensured the request was handled as quickly as possible, Miller said. "I was the first," Miller said of offering outdoor dining service in the district. "No one …
