Updated: 3 p.m. Friday Following a two-week investigation into alleged wrongdoing in Chesterfield Township, Macomb County authorities said Friday no crimes were committed. The investigation revolved around the sale of used township vehicles that Supervisor Michael Lovelock proposed at a recent board meeting. Multiple board members said they approved to sell the six vehicles for $4,000 but weren't aware the purchaser is the boyfriend of Lovelock's daughter. Chesterfield Township Police Chief Bruce Smith brought the matter to the Sheriff's Office because he and Lovelock were accused of favoritism. Macomb County seniors will be able to dispose of medication, and have documents shred, April 11 at Freedom Hill.
Seniors in Macomb County will have an opportunity April 11 to dispose of unwanted medication, and have personal documents shred for free, at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. Macomb County Senior Citizen Services and mobile shredding company, Absolute Shreds, will shred unwanted personal documents. Additionally, Health Department officials and a deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office assist seniors with the disposal of unwanted medications. Pills must be removed from bottles and placed in a plastic bag, according to Macomb County. Narcotic painkillers and stimulants will be accepted, but must be placed in a separate plastic bag, officials added. The Michigan Attorney General's Office announced the criminal charges against the Chesterfield Township man and a New Baltimore woman.
A Macomb County Sheriff's deputy was charged in an alleged scheme to fix an adult entertainment club employee's alcohol screening tests, according to the Michigan Attorney General's Office. The deputy, Joseph Cada, 45 of Chesterfield Township, and Trista Caswell, 28 of New Baltimore, face one charge of obstruction of justice—a felony punishable by up to five years imprisonment. The charges are the result of an investigation by the FBI-led Detroit Public Corruption Task Force and the Novi Police Department, Attorney General Bill Schuette said in a Wednesday news release. The Lenox Township woman was stopped by Macomb County Sheriff's deputies in Chesterfield Township.
A 32-year-old Lenox Township woman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of child endangerment and operating under the influence of drugs in Chesterfield Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The arrest took place around 8:30 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day in the Gratiot and 24 Mile area. During that time, deputies pulled over the woman for erratic driving. Once they approached the car, they noticed two children--ages 2 and 4--unrestrained in the back of the vehicle, Lt. John Michalke of the Sheriff's Office said. Two men who wanted in a string of break-ins in Ohio, and arrested Thursday in Macomb County, are awaiting extradition. One of the suspects who led police on a chase has been arraigned.
One of the suspects wanted in a string robberies in Ohio, who fled to Macomb County, was arraigned Friday on car theft and fleeing from police charges. Robert Hamman was one of two men who were wanted in Ohio for a string of home invasions and were located Thursday in Macomb County. As officers searched for the men, a pick-up was reported stolen from Labelle Electric Company in Macomb Township. Using a GPS tracking system, parking lot video security system and traffic cameras, officers were able to locate the Dodge Ram pickup truck on westbound I-94 driven by Robert Hamman.
