Olive Garden Removes Chesterfield Township From 2013 Project List

Township planning officials were notified the restaurant chain no longer intends to build a restaurant this year.

Olive Garden no longer has Chesterfield Township on the menu. The on-again, off-again project is off...again, according to township planning officials. Planning Director Janice Giese said this week she was notified by an architect with the company that the township was removed from the 2013 project list due to "circumstances beyond their control." No further information was given to the township. Construction on an Olive Garden in front of Kohl's on Gratiot and 23 Mile was expected later this year. Township officials were encouraged last month when the business moved forward with signage requests, but said they're disappointed the project fell through. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!

Is there anything we can do? Can we make a loud noise to the township? We are the taxpayers and down want our city run down with crime and nasty people. Chesterfield is a great location with the water and shopping centers, the New Baltimore downtown area. We need more well known and honorable companies and establishments and start kicking out the run down hotels, apartments, and other buildings.   more ›

Olive Garden 'Signs' Up Chesterfield Township

The restaurant chain plans to open in front of the Kohl's Department store on Gratiot near 23 Mile Road.

Plans for an Olive Garden restaurant are heating up in Chesterfield Township. After about a year of anticipating the chain eatery, township officials said Friday that Olive Garden sign requests will go before the planning commission Feb. 12 for approval. The signage submission is for property in front of the Kohl's Department store on Gratiot near 23 Mile, Planning Director Janice Giese said Friday. No official site plans have been submitted to build in the plaza, but the process could start by fall, Giese said. Chesterfield Township officials said they were eager for the Italian restaurant to come to town last year, but the business backed off plans soon after. The sign request is for the same location previously eyed for construction. …

Olive Garden Says No to One Chesterfield Location, May Be Eyeing Another

Olive Garden has abandoned plans to build a restaurant in front of Kohl's on Gratiot near 23 Mile, according to township officials. But another location could be in the works.

Olive Garden has backed away from previous development plans in Chesterfield, but a restaurant in the community remains on the table. Chesterfield Township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said Monday night the chain no longer intends to build a restaurant in front of Kohl's at Gratiot and 23 Mile Road. "They're at a standstill right now," Lovelock said after the Board of Trustees meeting. "The parking might not have been sufficient for them." He said Olive Garden did not give a specific reason for the abandoning plans to build there, but township officials believe parking is the main deterrent. However, Lovelock said he received an email from restaurant representatives before the meeting in which the company inquired about another location in …

Olive Garden Restaurant Coming to Chesterfield

Township officials said Thursday the popular Italian restaurant is heading to Gratiot and 23 Mile.

A popular restaurant has cooked up plans to serve Chesterfield Township patrons. Olive Garden is expected to break ground in spring in a plaza on Gratiot near 23 Mile Road, township Planning Director Janice Giese said Thursday. "There's an Olive Garden coming in front of Kohl's," Giese said, adding township officials are excited about the project. "They're building a new building up in front of the parking lot. They are through (Chesterfield Township) Planning Commission approval and they're in engineering now." The restaurant chain that owns Olive Garden had long eyed that specific section of the township for business. At one point, a Chili's Bar and Grill was interested in opening in front of the Kmart store, Giese said. When that never …
