You've passed them frequently. You remembered when they were bustling retail centers. Perhaps, you shopped or dined in them and wished something else would take their places. In our weekly Visions for Vacancies feature, readers become pseudo city planners by offering an opportunity to share dreams for empty storefronts. Our highlighted vacancy is the former Outback Steakhouse on 23 Mile east of Gratiot. The Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees Monday night granted a liquor license to Grand Azteca, a Mexican restaurant set to open soon in the township.
A Mexican restaurant is one step closer to opening in the former Outback Steakhouse on 23 Mile. Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees approved a request Monday night from Grand Azteca VII LLC for a new Class C liquor license. The Grand Azteca firm owns and operates five full-service family Mexican restaurants in southeast Michigan. A Grand Azteca restaurant is slated to open at an undetermined time in the vacant space at 27953 23 Mile that previously housed an Outback location. Grand Azteca Mexican restaurants are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. They offer a full bar and an authentic Mexican menu. Other locations include Madison Heights, Warren, Fraser, Troy and Sterling Heights.

The Spring edition featured ten restaurants from the brand new Sterling's Bistro to Sherwood Brewing spanning across Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Macomb Township, and Shelby Township. "We've come out to the Grub Crawl for the past couple of years and had a fantastic time," says Michael Height, "So we decided to take grandma out for her eightieth birthday." A return customer and a special occasion? There isn't a better endorsement than that. …
