A preliminary hearing for a Chesterfield Township man charged with second-degree murder in a deadly car crash in Highland Park was adjourned Tuesday. Jeremy Sherman-Gill Yancey will have a preliminary hearing on May 28 at 11:30 a.m., according to a statement from Maria Miller of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Highland Park police said Yancey was driving drunk when his car crashed into a van and killed three people. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said that detectives are investigating the burglary of a Sprint Store in Macomb Township. According to a statement from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department, three masked men broke into the Sprint Store at 24941 Hall Road on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10:56 p.m. The sheriff’s department said the men disabled the alarm system and took approximately $70,000 worth of merchandise from the store. The men left in a light-colored minivan, perhaps a Chrysler, according to the report. The sheriff’s department said the incident was captured on videotape, and that the incident remains under investigation. Someone damaged a holiday display last Saturday night on Bower Drive in Chesterfield Township, police said. The home owner reported that a six-foot extension cord that was the power source for several lawn decorations was cut. Another cord used for a separate decoration was missing a four-inch section, the report stated. No suspects were known at the time. Two main signs were damaged last weekend in the Meadows At Anchor Bay complex off Jefferson, New Baltimore police said this week. The New Baltimore police and Macomb County Child Protective Services have launched a joint investigation after a 2-year-old girl wearing nothing but a diaper was seen walking on 23 Mile Road on Thursday morning.
Employees from a hair salon in New Baltimore rescued a 2-year-old girl wearing nothing but a diaper from walking across a heavily congested portion of the 36000 block of 23 Mile Road on Thursday morning. The New Baltimore police were called just before 10 a.m. to do a health and safety check after receiving several complaint calls of a “young, soaking wet child walking in the roadway, wearing only a diaper,” according to a police-issued statement. Several motorists told police the child was about to walk across the street when employees from a nearby hair salon ran out and removed the child from the street and the rainy weather conditions. A 72-year-old Macomb Township man was hit and killed by a car Monday night as he was walking in the center of 24 Mile Road, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said a preliminary investigation has revealed that Tomislav Anakiev was walking in the center of 24 Mile Road, east of Hayes Road, around 11:17 p.m. last night when he was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on 24 Mile Road. Anakiev was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 62-year-old Utica man, was questioned and released at the scene. Investigators are seeking two "persons of interest" in the case for questioning because they were in the area around the time of the theft at Richard Auto Parts, New Baltimore Police Chief Tim Wiley said. Those individuals—a man and woman believed to be 25-35 years old—were seen on surveillance images at the Valero Gas Station next to the auto parts business. I would think these days, the stolen phones could be immediately tracked down via GPS and tower triangulation, as they are activated. They do have electronic serial numbers (ESN). Anyone think of that?   more ›
