The former Anchor Bay Pharmacy is undergoing transformation in downtown New Baltimore.
Plans for a new restaurant and bar in downtown New Baltimore moved forward Monday night. Matthew Cipriano, who bought the former Anchor Bay Pharmacy, was granted a Class C Liquor License by city council for the building on Washington Street. Cipriano is transforming the two-story structure into a restaurant, bar and nightclub, according to the license paperwork submitted to the city. Construction is expected to be complete this June on the unnamed business, the paperwork states.

The owner of the Chesterfield Township sub restaurant plans to serve patrons on 23 Mile.
Jimmy John's fans may be especially excited about winter in New Baltimore. That's because plans are underway for a new shop to open before 2013. Follow us on Facebook "It should probably be done by the end of the year," said owner Gerard Nicosia, who also runs the Chesterfield Township franchise location on Gratiot. Site plans are scheduled to go before the city's Planning Commission Sept. 18 and, if all goes well, construction will begin soon after, Nicosia said. The blueprints call for the former North Shore Cafe across from 42-2 District Court to be completely renovated to fit the Jimmy John's look. A drive-thru will also be installed to accommodate sub patrons on the go. Nicosia said other Jimmy John's locations have seen a lot of …

Olive Garden has abandoned plans to build a restaurant in front of Kohl's on Gratiot near 23 Mile, according to township officials. But another location could be in the works.
Olive Garden has backed away from previous development plans in Chesterfield, but a restaurant in the community remains on the table. Chesterfield Township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said Monday night the chain no longer intends to build a restaurant in front of Kohl's at Gratiot and 23 Mile Road. "They're at a standstill right now," Lovelock said after the Board of Trustees meeting. "The parking might not have been sufficient for them." He said Olive Garden did not give a specific reason for the abandoning plans to build there, but township officials believe parking is the main deterrent. However, Lovelock said he received an email from restaurant representatives before the meeting in which the company inquired about another location in …

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Chesterfield/New Baltimore Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Poncho's Overview: A small, unassuming place serving a straightforward Tex Mex menu. The incredibly nice waitstaff is always willing to help with questions or concerns. One of the area's most popular restaurants, there can sometimes be a wait on weekend evenings. Decor: Rustic and casual. Some kitschy faux Mexican memorabila graces the walls along with a statue or two. Elegance is not important in casual dining. This is not a bad thing. The overall look of the place is clean and …

Sugarbush Tavern is a bustling bar that serves food. Nearly any time you walk through the doors, at least half the place is full. There's nothing flashy. Straight-forward woodwork, no ornate decorations or flashy gimmicks, Sugarbush is a neighborhood joint through and through. Just take a look at the monthly calendar. There's a special every day of the week. Happy hour is from 1-5:30 p.m. and includes $2 domestic drafts and $3 house margaritas. If alcohol specials aren't your thing, on Sundays deals are all-you-can-eat fried chicken or a complete roast turkey dinner, both available for under $10. Live bands and other special events are on the schedule, too. Waitresses are incredibly nice and helpful. A full bar is available, but …

J & V Mexican Restaurant is a tiny place behind J & V Supermercado. Only open on weekends, it serves traditional, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine.

Tradition and authenticity excite me. Slow cooking is no longer the norm; people are more concerned with convenience and speed. Taco Bell has become what passes for Mexican food in the American psyche. Not only is this wrong, but it is insulting. Insulting to places like J & V Mexican Restaurant, where they take pride in their food and are presenting traditional dishes made from scratch. J & V (behind J & V Supermercado on Gratiot in Chesterfield Township) is only open on weekends and is a cash-only restaurant. All of the food is prepared in-house, including the salsas. Two salsas—one green, one red—are served along with lime slices and thick flour tortilla chips. The red salsa is made with tomatillos and chiles de arbol. Smoky with a …

Hopefully the city charged a fee for that license. If this new restaurant decides to leave New Baltimore, they now own the liquir license that was ours.   more ›
