Macomb County voters will take to the polls Aug. 7 to determine who will advance to the Nov. 6 general election. Below are the positions up for election and the candidates who are seeking office: Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and challenger Greg Stone comprise the Democrat and most recognizable candidates for lead law enforcement role. Republicans Kristi Dean, Bryan Ede, Roland Fraschetti, Steve Thomas and Todd Woodcox round out the Republican candidates. Democrat Darcy Jakubowski will try to unseat longtime Clerk Carmella Sabaugh, also a Democrat, in the primary election to eventually face Republican Debera Guenther in November. Macomb County Reserve Officers helped 100 children with their back-to-school shopping Saturday at the Meijer store in Washington Township.
What would dozens of Macomb County Sheriff's officers be doing in the Washington Township Meijer Saturday afternoon? Why, shopping of course. These officers, along with Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, were participating in the fifth annual Shop with the Sheriff event, sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office, Central Macomb Optimist Club and the Macomb Charitable Foundation. Paired with Macomb County Reserve Officers, 100 children, many from Macomb County's homeless shelters, received as much as $125 to spend on school supplies, clothes and other back-to-school needs. Macomb County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday along Forest Road, north of 30 Mile Road in Lenox Township. The Sheriff's Office reports that the shooting is believed to have been in connection with the trade or sale of marijuana. The shooting victim and his passenger, both 22-year-old Richmond residents, met three unidentified males at approximately 9:33 p.m. on Forest Road, according to police. Upon arrival, the suspects fired several shots into the victim’s vehicle. One of the shots hit the victim in the arm and then entered his chest. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said Monday. The passenger escaped injury, according to police. The …
