New Baltimore, Chesterfield Township Leaned Romney in Election

More registered voters cast ballots for Republican Mitt Romney than Democrat Barack Obama in the Tuesday race for the White House.

Chesterfield Township and New Baltimore voters showed more support for Republican candidate Mitt Romney than for Democratic President Barack Obama. In the 2012 election, there was a total of 10,993 Romney votes and 9,989 Obama votes in Chesterfield. Meanwhile, a total of 3,153 New Baltimore voters cast ballots for Romney while 2,710 favored Obama, according to Macomb County election results. Despite predictions of high voter turnout, both communities had fewer voters than the previous presidential election. In Chesterfield, turnout was at 67.6 percent this election compared to 71.8 percent in 2008. New Baltimore saw 70.6 percent turnout, down from 75.7, the results show.                                                          Read more …

How to Help the Hungry in Chesterfield, New Baltimore This Holiday Season

One in four Michigan children lives in poverty. In this season of being thankful and giving back, here are ways to help make others' holidays warmer.

The holiday season is a time of joy, and if one's lucky, of plenty. Sadly hunger continues to be a problem, with one in four Michigan children living in poverty and nearly half qualifying for free or low-cost school lunches. Some of these youngsters can only look forward to plenty of hunger pangs, but here at Patch we want to help. Patch.com has launched an online food drive, with all of its 30 Michigan sites participating. Patch is partnering with Gleaners Community Food Bank in this virtual food drive, and the goal is to raise $10,000 by Nov. 17 to help feed local families. Hey Voters! Find Your Ballot Before You Hit the Polls Tuesday in Chesterfield, New Baltimore

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 for the general election. Chesterfield and New Baltimore voters can see their ballots and find their voting location before they hit the polls.

Looking for your ballot before you hit the polls in Chesterfield and New Baltimore? Publius has it online. In its 16th year, Publius.org is a nonprofit, one-stop online voter education guide.  “We designed it for voters who want to make sure there are no surprises at the polling booth” said Vince Keenan, creator and executive director of Publius.org. “Publius helps you familiarize yourself with the ballot before you hit the polls.” Also, if complicated redistricting has you confused, the site offers a 2012 district-mapping function with updated districts so you can easily check the boundaries of your U.S. congressional, state senate and house seats. Anchor Bay Buccaneers Raise Cancer Awareness With Pink Game

The New Baltimore-area youth football league donated money to two families that have been affected by cancer.

When young football players charged the field this month in New Baltimore, they scored big for cancer awareness. Players, cheerleaders and families in the Anchor Bay Buccaneers Youth Football League raised money during a pink game Oct. 7 against the Mt. Clemens Barracudas at Anchor Bay Middle School North. A bake sale, raffles and other donations led to a total of $2,275 that will be split between two families affected by cancer. In addition, the Bob McGuire Memorial Foundation will pay some utility expenses for the families.
