L'Anse Creuse Board Treasurer to Resign

Candidates will be able to apply for the vacancy in the near future.

L'Anse Creuse Public School Board Treasurer Jeffrey DiPascale plans to resign April 30, according to the district.  The announcement comes after DiPascale, who's been on the board since 2009, informed the board president earlier this year that a recent career change led to challenges keeping board position. He ultimately decided stepping down was in the best interest of the school community because he couldn't dedicate the attention it deserves. “For the last four years, it has been a privilege to serve the students, the staff, and the community as an elected member of the L’Anse Creuse Board of Education,” DiPascale said in a prepared statement. “This position has given me the opportunity to help improve the quality of service to our …

Chesterfield Township Developer Offers $1,000 Reward to Help Nab Church Robbers

The land owner of Chesterfield Towne Centre off I-94 is also donating money to St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Shelby Township.

A local developer is offering a $1,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of robbers who stole from a Shelby Township church following Easter services. Businessman and attorney Thomas Guastello, who owns the Comfort Inn in Utica and Shelby Town Center, is also donating $1,000 to the church, St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Shelby Township, to help support its efforts in the community. "This type of criminal conduct is unacceptable and violates the basic fiber of our community...It is absolutely reprehensible that people would rob a church and steal a large amount of collection money and chalices," Guastello said in a statement about the reward. Guastello also owns an expansive parcel off Interstate 94 in …

Macomb County Expands Video Arraignment Services at New Baltimore Court

Macomb has partnered with the state to expand its video arraignment system to allow its courts to arraign in-custody defendants who are being held at local lockups, county jails, or statewide prison facilities outside the county.

An individual's proximity to the court in which he or she is scheduled to face charges will no longer matter thanks to an expansion of Macomb County's video arraignment system. New technology implemented by the county last month will allow local courts to video arraign individuals being held outside the county's borders. As this technology uses the county’s two-way interactive video system to connect with judicial proceedings conducted at remote locations, the need to transport prisoners to court can, in many cases, be eliminated. While Macomb County has been using this type of system for in-county cases for the past several years, the new technology allows its use statewide. “The expansion of this technology will greatly improve the way …
