Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes into Vehicle, Sideswipes Police Car

The New Haven driver was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.

Chesterfield Township police are investigating a three-car accident involving a sheriff's patrol car late Wednesday at the St. Clair County-Macomb County border, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office. At approximately, 11:15 p.m., a St. Clair County Sheriff's patrol vehicle was traveling westbound on Marine City Highway en route to Interstate 94.  "The car was heading through the intersection of County Line Road when a vehicle heading eastbound went into the turn lane, struck a vehicle from behind, then veered into the path of the patrol unit," the Sheriff's Office stated in a news release. Pedestrian Path Opens Near Anchor Bay High

Local school and government officials gathered at Anchor Bay High School Wednesday to dedicate the recently finished pedestrian path along County Line Road.

Despite rain, local school and government officials celebrated the opening of the County Line Road pedestrian path Wednesday during an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at Anchor Bay High School. Community and school leaders hope the path improves safety for students en route to the high school while also providing recreation opportunities for area residents. The 10-foot wide, 1.2-mile long asphalt path runs along County Line Road between the north entrance of the high school and the north side of Crapaud Creek. "This is probably one of the most exciting things that has happened in a long time in our community," New Baltimore Mayor Larry Smith after the ceremony. Hi Dorothy: Mayor Larry Smith said getting the money to do this portion of the trail has been a longtime initiative. Smith said he would love to see the trail extended that far but funding isn't available at this time. However, securing money for the path to continue remains a goal, he said.   more ›
