Reigning Miss Michigan 2012, Angela Venditti, will serve as the keynote speaker at the L’Anse Creuse Community Action Coalition's annual Dialogue Day.
Given her platform to encourage discussion of teen drug abuse, organizers of the L’Anse Creuse Community Action Coalition's annual Dialogue Day say Miss Michigan Angela Venditti was a natural choice to serve as the keynote speaker of this year's event. “We are thrilled to have Angela with us this year as her platform is ‘Above the Influence: Keeping Kids Drug Free,’ which is a main objective of our Coalition,” said Julie Rickel, chairperson for Dialogue Day, in a statement. Started more than a decade ago, Dialogue Day is designed to bring students and community leaders together to freely talk about issues such as personal empowerment, bullying, healthy teen relationships, drug use/abuse and more. Divided into small groups by topic, both …

Heightened security measures implemented by L'Anse Creuse, Anchor Bay and New Haven districts following the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting are expected to remain in place through early 2013.

Millions of people are getting into the Halloween spirit this week as they prepare to celebrate the holiday by topping off candy bowls and picking out costumes. On Wednesday, trick-or-treaters across the nation will head out disguised as vampires, witches, superheroes, pirates and other characters. Nearly 80 million people are planning to wear costumes this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s 2012 Halloween consumer spending survey. Americans will spend about $3 billion on costumes in 2012. Popular costumes fly off shelves Lannette Deese, assistant manager at Spirit Halloween in Clinton Township, said costume sales have jumped at the Gratiot location this year. The store’s best-selling costumes for children include …
