Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said that detectives are investigating the burglary of a Sprint Store in Macomb Township. According to a statement from the Macomb County Sheriff's Department, three masked men broke into the Sprint Store at 24941 Hall Road on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10:56 p.m. The sheriff’s department said the men disabled the alarm system and took approximately $70,000 worth of merchandise from the store. The men left in a light-colored minivan, perhaps a Chrysler, according to the report. The sheriff’s department said the incident was captured on videotape, and that the incident remains under investigation. Anthony Wickersham took office Jan. 1 and began his first full term as the Macomb County Sheriff.
The start of the new year marked the beginning of the latest chapter in the law enforcement career of Anthony Wickersham. Wickersham, 51, joined the Macomb County Sheriff's Department in 1986 as a correctional officer and has held every rank in the department including sheriff—a position he was appointed to in 2011. The 46th Macomb County Sheriff ran for re-election in November and defeated Steve Thomas to win a full, four-year term. Voters across Macomb County Tuesday returned incumbents to county-wide offices.
Voters across Macomb County returned incumbents to office Tuesday and voted down a millage for Macomb Community College. With 100 percent of the vote tallied, Democrats have dominated county races. Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney Eric J. Smith received 65 percent of the vote over Republican challenger Michael R. Wrathell. Anthony Wickersham won his first run for sheriff as a candidate. Tomislav Anakiev was walking in the center of 24 Mile Road, east of Hayes Road, around 11:17 p.m. Monday when he was hit and killed, according to the sheriff's office.
A 72-year-old Macomb Township man was hit and killed by a car Monday night as he was walking in the center of 24 Mile Road, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said a preliminary investigation has revealed that Tomislav Anakiev was walking in the center of 24 Mile Road, east of Hayes Road, around 11:17 p.m. last night when he was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on 24 Mile Road. Anakiev was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 62-year-old Utica man, was questioned and released at the scene. A Macomb Township man is being charged with scamming customers in cities across Macomb and Oakland counties out of thousands of dollars.
There are four known victims of alleged scam artist Nameer Elias in Macomb Township and Macomb County Sheriff’s detectives believe there may be more. The 36-year-old Macomb Township resident was arrested June 5 in Rochester Hills after approaching several people in the city and offering them phone, TV and Internet services for one year for $1,000, according to Oakland County Sheriff's Detective Ray White. Elias is alleged to have posed as an AT&T salesman throughout Oakland and Macomb counties, scamming residents out of thousands of dollars in more than seven communities. On April 18, at approximately 1:38 a.m., a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy registered a Chesterfield Township man driving 63 mph along a 45 mph stretch of 22 Mile Road in Macomb Township. The 45-year-old driver was pulled over in the area of Card Road and Emanuel Drive where he was asked to perform a series of sobriety tests. The man failed these tests and registered a blood alcohol content of .168 in his preliminary breath test, according to the police report. The man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a high blood alcohol content and transported to the Macomb County Jail. Greg Stone filed paperwork to run for county sheriff.
Greg Stone has entered the race to become the Macomb County Sheriff. Stone, 58, who retired last year after 35 years in the sheriff’s department, filed paperwork to run for county sheriff, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. Anthony Wickersham was appointed Macomb County Sheriff in December 2010. Wickersham has filed paperwork to run for re-election.
