The splash park opens this season inside Brandenburg Park.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for noon June 8 to unveil Chesterfield Township's splash park, according to the township. The water attraction inside Brandenburg Park was made possible by a donation from the Webber Family Foundation. It has been dubbed by the township as the Cedar Point of Chesterfield and will include 16 fountains in the park overlooking Anchor Bay off Jefferson. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Brandenburg Park admission will be waived during that time for attendees, township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said.

Chesterfield Township's highly anticipated splash park is approaching completion. Play structures were installed last week, with several more expected to go up this winter, according to township Supervisor Michael Lovelock. A grand opening is expected at an undetermined date in spring and the public will be able to use splash park inside Brandenburg Park this summer, Lovelock said. The 16-fountain park overlooking Anchor Bay is made possible by gift from the Webber Family Foundation.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality issued the required permit to the finish construction Friday, according to the township.
After citing construction delays for the splash park, Chesterfield Township received a necessary permit Friday to move ahead with the project. Township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said Monday night at the regular Board of Trustees meeting that the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued the permit to finish the splash park. Lovelock previously stated the township was awaiting its turn for DEQ approval, due to regular delays from other project oversight. The permit allows the township to wrap up construction inside Brandenburg Park this year. The 16-fountain splash park is scheduled to open to the public in the warmer 2013 months.

But, securing state permits to finish construction on time was the real hold up, according to Supervisor Michael Lovelock. The splash park requires approval from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality that has multiple pending projects to oversee, Lovelock said. "You have to wait your turn," he said. "I was hoping it was going to be open this year for the kids but obviously it didn't happen." He said he hopes to learn more about the status of the permit requests in the next week or so…

The former Farmer Jack building, which has long sat vacant in Chesterfield Township, will become a sporting goods store, according to Supervisor Michael Lovelock. "Dunham Sports is moving into the old Farmer Jack," Lovelock announced Thursday morning during an Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce annual membership breakfast in Municipal Offices.
