ReplyHello Moon Friends,
I love all of the good name ideas. A few of the other names that have been suggested are: "Suds", "Hops Right In", "Rochester Moon Suds", "Coriander Clove".
The soap smells like Autumn to me, it's warm, with a spice note to it. It happens to be my favorite scent to date. I think it's because it is such a unique smell with the hops and coriander.....
I too used "Body on Tap " in the 70's. -

ReplyVery nice job. It is of course uncomfortable to have had the Main Street closed but I am very thankful for the communication and professionalism outlined by the City of Rochester and DDA. It is a gift to the business district to have both the City of Rochester and the DDA work together in planning with the united goal of moving forward while respecting the history of the downtown.

ReplyThank you Thomas. For the record we happen to LOVE Jingle Bell Run and have participated for years. My suggestion to launch it from the middle school was because the fire code capacity at the recreation center is 160 persons and this event exceeds this number probably 10x over. It would be a tragedy if fire were to break out at this event and any persons were trapped in the middle of a block building with no exits. Jingle Bell run is an Anchor Bay DECA event so it makes perfect sense to launch it from the middle school. The very first thing assistant director Carlos Aprea did was to have the fire chief inspect and post the capacity. Make a Differance Day is another event that is very crowded. Council member Flo Hayman is in charge of this event. My solution was not to end the event, but to relocate it to the middle school - it would be a win win solution.

ReplyIt would be even nicer if Washington Street was open all year long instead of being barricaded off for 18 days in a year. We have the only non alcohol serving business that gets baracades blocking my shipments and customers for 18 days in a single year. We will be barracaded the last week in January as a giant beer tent will provide a local club to make their profits on beer . This winter festival has no outdoor childrens activities, ice sculptures, etc. This type of event does not attract families.
Do we really want giant beer tents as we move forward with our new street scape? I propose we put the Beer Tent in the empty lot next to recreation center so that we not not take away from our new street scape. -

ReplyI do not think any of "my" ideas are new, they have just been ignored for 20 years. I have my hat off to every person who has offered to help point the downtown in the positive direction. The people get discouraged as the council members never show up at the DDA meetings. The downtown is stuck in a time warp and someone needs to take responsibility for the lack of movement in the last 30 years. Mr. Butler told me personnally the DDA meetings and downtown discussions are not his responsibilty as he not the DDA liasion. He mentioned this to me at the last council meeting. The downtown is an area that has the potential to create a boat load of tax revenue if we can begin to market our town. Why did we turn down the free MSU senior Marketing and Developement students as were offered to us to help market our town? Go ask the DDA director Judy Sproat and find out why. I have yet to get an answer from her.

ReplyAs a former board member of the New Baltimore DDA it would have been nice if Mr. Butler could have attended at least one monthly meeting. I brought several ideas to put our downtown back on the map and my ideas went unsupported by council. We were offered MSU marketing students to help us with a marketing campaign and the board said "no". I asked for a professional downtown website to list the assets and businesses we already have and the board said "no". We could market our new water trail, beach, and park. We have three businesses, bread, wine, and soap who make a successful product right here in New Baltimore. We should highlight this asset. We have specialty stores such as The Anchor Bay Aquarium, we have Reds. Why do we still not have a professional downtown website? Why do we not list the businesses on the sign at the corner of Green and Washington. I fought for 8 months for these items. Butler never showed once to a DDA meeting. We need a council who supports the downtown businesses. If you want to grow a downtown you have to attend the meetings, see what solutions I had that were tangible right now. We have a new beach that no one knows exsists, why not put some banners along Green? Put some flower pots downtown. We end up waiting years for a grant when we could have planted the trees 2 years ago. Now we have to tear a whole town up for a $500,000 grant that will give us new curbs along with the trees? We could have just bought the trees 2 years ago and been done.

ReplyThis is a very important and well needed step in the right direction. We need to to continue to make preserving and cleaning up the environment a top priority. We to also need to educate the homeownerers on earth friendly ways to maintain their yards without using toxic chemicals. The elimination of toxic lawn fertilizers may help prevent the muck like substance forming in our waters.

Thanks to everyone for stopping in yesterday with your good naming ideas, we had several people asking for "Rochester" to be included in this hometown blend so at this point we are leaning towards "Rochester Suds". Where else can you find a soap with this specific aroma? We are still open to all ideas but we need a wrapper soon:)
