ReplyFinally, we have been waiting a long time for this area to be developed. This is a project that has been in the works for many years, but do to economics the development of this property has been put on the back burner. I am still hoping that the convention center idea will still be considered for future development. Many township boards from 1992 thru today have hoped for a project that would showcase Chesterfield.

On the article North Gratiot Cruise Rolls on Without Chesterfield Township Sponsorship

ReplyAs a member of the North Gratiot Cruise Board of Directors, Concerned Citizen is correct in stating that the Township Board never sponsored the cruise. They recognized the organization and supported what it stood for. We are hoping that the North Gratiot Cruise will have more to offer and that more businesses will become involved. We want to showcase our township and our great business community.

On the article Recount for Chesterfield Township Clerk Upholds Berry's Win

ReplyAs an ex-employee of the township, you should know that anything paid by taxpayer's monies is open to the public. Figure it out, if you have two adults and two children (one in college) that makes four people getting benefits. It's not that hard to figure out. There are some requests that need to be have FOIA requests and health information is confidential, but benefits are not.

ReplyAm I satisfied with the outcome of the recount...absolutely not....six precincts were never recounted and it is my understanding from the counters that one of those precincts were off by 44. No, I don't like using tax dollars for recounts, but that is the way the election law works...the candidate pays for the precincts that they want recounted and the rest is picked up by government. I believe I have paid my fair share of taxes in the 38 years that I have lived in Chesterfield. I have been a faithful servant to my community in many avenues unlike the majority of those who do nothing to move their community ahead. I have always run on my own merit and have NEVER run a dirty campaign in all the times I have seeked office. If you want some monies back in the coffers, maybe you might ask the new clerk to take her family off the medical benefits....this benefit is costing the taxpayers close to $26,000 a year.

The township is looking at contacting Cosco for the the area located next to the Allstate office on 23 Mile Road (Walmart was interested in this property, but changed their mind). The Clerk and Planning/Zoning will be contacting Cosco in the near future. We definitely need a big box store in that area.

You are correct, both have been approached, but Randazzo's stated that if they had not built the store on Hayes (I believe that is the location) they may have given thought to Chesterfield. My understanding is Nino's is definitely not interested in Chesterfield.

I do not believe this spot would be the best site for a Trader Joe's or another produce store, but the old Kmart store and the old Farmer Jack store would have been best suited for this type of business, unfortunately the Farmer Jack store will be renovated and Dunham Sports is going to move in.

This comment is directed to Craig J: Unfortunately, you don't know me or you would be aware that I do not use fictitious names (neither does Michele Ficht) when I have something to say. I have been involved in political office (in and out) since the early 80's and I take no offense when someone has an issue with me as long as it is the truth. I believe that someone who is interested in running for political office in "grassroots government" should start by running for the position of Trustee because this position gives you the knowledge of township policy, board policy and township history. It makes you aware that, you as an elected official, serve the public 24/7 and are there for them even when on vacation. This is not the case with some of our board members (actually one); therefore, the reason parttime is mentioned.
Now, your comment regarding me not attending the police meetings: I had a previous commitment to my church, Living Hope of the Bay...don't believe me? Call my Pastor. As they say, "first come, first served"; therefore, my church commitment came first.
I have heard comments about my speaking at board meetings, since when was my right to freedom of speech taken away. Just because I no longer am an elected official, I am a 66 year-old American citizen and have every right to speak. I have been a Chesterfield resident, elector and taxpayer for 39 years. I am very proud of my name and I am not going to change because you have an issue.
God Bless+
