Aspiring Beauty Queens: Start Perfecting Your Wave

Contestants for Anchor Bay's Miss Bay-Rama should submit applications by 2 p.m. June 9.

Anchor Bay teenage girls with dreams of reigning over the Fishfly Festival have until 2 p.m. June 9 to submit entry forms.

Miss Bay-Rama 2011 contestants will compete for the crown at 6:30 p.m. June 22 in the festival tent in downtown New Baltimore. The queen and her court will serve as ambassadors for the volunteer Bay-Rama organization and the Anchor Bay area during the unique Fishfly Festival as well as other community events.

Pageant director Lisa Edwards of the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce said there were 12 girls in last year's pageant that named Nicole Socia, 19, of New Baltimore, the winner.

This year, Edwards hopes there's a strong interest in the event after the 2011 Miss Chesterfield pageant .

The Miss Bay-Rama event will be broken into three segments for nautical and evening wear and a question-and-answer format. Judges will look for personality, poise and confidence.

Among the requirements for entry are:

  • Teen girls must be 16-19, single, never married and without children.
  • Their principal residence must be in the Anchor Bay School District.
  • They must attend practices for the pageant.
