Macomb County Leads Region in Home Building

The county boasts the most residential building permits throughout southeast Michigan in 2010, according to Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, also known as SEMCOG.

Residential construction jumped 110% from 2009 to 2010 in southeast Michigan, with Macomb County claiming the most permits last year in the region. But early market conditions for 2011 indicate a flat or modest decline for metro Detroit, according to Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, also known as SEMCOG.

There were 3,357 residential building permits pulled in southeast Michigan in 2010, with 933 coming from Macomb County. Macomb Township led the region with the amount of single-family homes built—308—with Oakland County's Novi coming in a far second with 159 and then the City of Detroit with 138. Detroit, the most populated city in the state, had more total permits pulled than other individual communities throughout the area, according to SEMCOG statistics.
