Holy Shroud of Turin Exhibit Comes to St. Mary Queen of Creation

will host the Holy Shroud of Turin traveling exhibit from April 13-22 at the Parish Center Hall, 50931 Maria in downtown New Baltimore.

Visitors can expect to see 92 biographical and pictorial panels, learn about the twilled linen cloth of the shroud and pollen grains found only in plants from Turkey and Northern Europe as well as view the depiction of the crowning of thorns and the imprints it left on the shroud, according to the church's website.

Viewing times for the exhibit, sponsored by the Anchor Bay Knights of Columbus, are from 5-9 p.m. weekdays and noon to 9 p.m. weekends. Large groups can call 586-648-6722 for a special viewing.

According to St. Mary Queen of Creation, the photo tour will depict what is believed to be an archaeological artifact documenting the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth 2,000 years ago.

"The shroud is one of the most studied artifacts in human history, and one of the most controversial. The origins of the shroud and its image are the subject of intense debate among scientists, theologians, historians and researchers," according to the church.

What is believed to be the real shroud is at the Royal Chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy.
