Olive Garden has backed away from , but a restaurant in the community remains on the table.
Chesterfield Township Supervisor Michael Lovelock said Monday night the chain no longer intends to build a restaurant in front of at Gratiot and 23 Mile Road.
"They're at a standstill right now," Lovelock said after the Board of Trustees meeting. "The parking might not have been sufficient for them."
He said Olive Garden did not give a specific reason for the abandoning plans to build there, but township officials believe parking is the main deterrent.
However, Lovelock said he received an email from restaurant representatives before the meeting in which the company inquired about another location in Chesterfield. The supervisor had encouraged residents to campaign for the business to come when it backed out of the Kohl's location.
He declined to say what area the chain is eyeing at this time. "They're still interested in our town."
