Boy Who Played With Gun Fabricates Roadside Shooter Story

Chesterfield Township police said the 14-year-old boy may be charged with making a false report.

A 14-year-old Chesterfield Township boy, who Saturday, initially told police a roadside gunman shot him while he jumped on the backyard trampoline, police said Monday.

"He wanted officers to believe that an unknown male shot him from Cotton Road," said Detective Sgt. Deron Myers.

During a police investigation, the boy confessed he made up the story after he shot himself in the leg with a .22 caliber handgun passed down to his family from his grandfather, Myers said.
