Chesterfield Township Man Charged With Robbing Bank

His girlfriend, who did not participate in the Chesterfield credit union holdup, was charged with receiving money from the robbery and buying the couple cell phones, police said Monday.

A 41-year-old Chesterfield Township man was charged Monday with bank robbery via video arraignment at in New Baltimore.

Michael Boshell is accused of passing a note around 3:50 p.m. Friday to a Genisys Credit Union teller, demanding money. The robber then fled on foot from the credit union on Gratiot south of 23 Mile Road with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to .

Chesterfield police, along with units from Michigan State Police and Macomb County Sheriff's Office, scoured the area. They eventually found a witness who directed them to a room in the Green Roof Motel at 49250 Gratiot, where the suspect was hiding, township Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said in a Monday news release.

After initially denying involvement, Boshell then confessed to robbing the credit union, Myers said.

A search warrant was later executed inside the motel room, where officers retrieved money and clothing from the robbery, he said.

Investigators determined that his girlfriend, Cara Tamer, 28, of Chesterfield, was not involved in the robbery. However, Boshell gave her some money from the crime that she used to buy cell phones for the couple, police said.

Boshell, who police said has an extensive criminal history, was charged with bank robbery. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment upon conviction. He is being held in Macomb County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 cash bond.

Tamer was charged with receiving and concealing stolen property more than $1,000 and was being held on a $15,000 bond in Macomb County Jail. She faces up to five years behind bars if convicted.

The suspects were arraigned in the court via video from the jail slightly before noon Monday. Boshell was ordered to stay away from the credit union and teller he approached during the robbery. Tamer must avoid drug or alcohol use, according to the court.

Not-guilty pleas were automatically entered on each of their behalf at this early stage of the court process. They both requested court-ordered attorneys for their preliminary exams set for 1:30 p.m. April 2 at 42-2 District Court, court officials said.
