Chesterfield Police Deploy Taser on Suicidal Man

Police said they used a Taser gun on a 56-year-old township man in the early Thursday morning hours to prevent him from further harming himself.

said they used a Taser gun to prevent a 56-year-old resident from slashing his throat early Thursday morning.

At 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a call placed by his roommate at on 23 Mile east of Gratiot. Upon arrival, they found the man sitting on his kitchen floor.

"The man had cut both of his own wrists and was bleeding profusely," according to a police statement Thursday afternoon.

When police attempted to reason and aid the man, he held a knife to his throat, saying "go ahead and kill me," police said.

In effort to prevent further injury, Officer Michael Ogden deployed his Taser gun on the man. The shock caused the wounded man to fall back and drop the knife, but he soon reached for it again. At that time, he was struck again with the Taser, allowing police to disarm him, police said.

Paramedics and were called to administer first aid. The man is recovering from his wounds in Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center.
