Chesterfield Police Search Woods for Shooting Clues

The person responsible for firing a gun in the 24 Mile Road area could face a one-year misdemeanor charge.

The shots, heard by residents on Sams Lane north of 24 Mile Road near the woods, took place Sunday night. Around that time, a woman on Walnut south of 24 Mile reported to police that a . No one was injured in the incident.

Chesterfield Township police said they believe the bullet traveled across the mile road and was not intended for anyone. Rather, they suspect one or multiple people were recklessly discharging firearms in the woods.

"By all witness accounts, it was far enough away where the house wasn't a target," Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.

Investigators spent several hours in the wooded area in Chesterfield Township on Tuesday, searching for shell casings or other evidence of the shootings. Nothing turned up at the time, Myers said.

If convicted, the shooter could face up to one-year imprisonment for careless discharge causing property damage, he said.
