Fugitive Nabbed Sunday in Chesterfield Township

Jonathan Elbers, 23, was taken into custody without incident after being found hiding in a hunting blind near 25 Mile Road and New Haven Road.

A follow-up police check at the Chesterfield Township house kidnapping suspect Jonathan Elbers broke into during his three-day run from authorities led to his arrest Sunday afternoon without incident, police said.

A township officer found Elbers inside a hunting blind around 1 p.m. in a wooded area by the house off 25 Mile Road near New Haven Road after the home owner told police of the possible hiding place, Police Chief Bruce Smith told Patch.

"He was rolled up in some carpet and he said, 'I had it. I give up,'" Smith said.

Elbers, who was unarmed, was taken to the police station, where he is being held until his formal arraignment. It's unclear if he suffered any injuries at the time from enduring weather conditions overnight, he said.

Elbers had a head wound sustained during an attack early Friday morning on his ex-girlfriend in the township. He faces a slew of felony charges for his alleged role in the kidnapping and murder plot and other crimes.
