Woman learns failing business is in her name

A Chesterfield Township woman was contacted in mid-August by her bank, notifying a lien was put on her account in the amount of roughly $7,000, police said.

The lien was placed by an Indiana court and, upon looking into the matter, the woman discovered her Social Security number had been used to operate a business in Indiana. That business owes the government money, police said.

The identity theft victim said she has only driven through Indiana and never opened a business in the state. She filed a fraud report with her bank.

responded to a home around 1 a.m. Aug. 13 on Leshan Drive, where the caller told officers he found a man in his unlocked car.

The man reportedly entered the car from an unlocked window in the garage. He chased the man outside but lost sight of him. The K-9 tracking unit picked up his scent and tracked it to a nearby home, but none of the occupants' clothing matched the suspect and all the people in there had been home for more than an hour, police said.

About $2,000 worth of items swiped from unlocked car

A New Baltimore resident told police Aug. 11 that someone stole about $2,000 of items from his unlocked car the night before.

The car parked in his driveway on Orchard Lake had two sets of Callaway golf clubs, an Odyssey putter, drivers, a golf bag, golf balls, rain jacket and golf shoes, police said.

No suspects were known.
