An 18-year-old Chesterfield Township man is accused of stealing items from multiple cars in New Baltimore, according to .

Matthew Cosio was arraigned Dec. 8 in on one count of larceny from an auto, one count of larceny of $1,000-$5,000 and one count of receiving and concealing stolen property worth $200 to $1,000. The first two felony charges are punishable by up to five years in prison upon conviction and the third charge is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail, police said Thursday.

He was held at Macomb County Jail in lieu of a $2,5000 cash/surety bond immediately after arraignment.

The charges stem from when a police officer saw an interior car light on while patrolling at night at the 36000 block of St. Clair Drive. The teen was alongside the car and fled when the officer approached.

When stopped soon after, police found him in possession of stolen property worth somewhere between $1,000 and $20,000. He confessed to taking the items from multiple vehicles in different locations, police said.

According to a Chesterfield Township police report, township residents had a $265 global positioning system unit and $300 portable camcorder stolen from their unlocked vehicle on Butternut Street on the same night of the teen's arrest. reported the incident could have been related to the vehicle break-ins in New Baltimore and were continuing to investigate.
