Crime Brief: Bus Passenger Victim of Pickpocketing

A bump en route leaves passenger in doubt

A man, believed to be in his early 20s to mid-30s, bumped into a passenger on the bus ride from Detroit to Chesterfield Township and left the victim sans cash and cell phone, according to a June police report.

The victim told around 1:45 a.m. June 2 that he was victimized by a pickpocket who made off with a pouch in his front cargo pocket that contained an undisclosed amount of cash and his phone. He did not realize his property was gone until he got off the bus.

At that time, he reported the incident to police from the Meijer gas station at 23 Mile and Gratiot. He said he suspected the other passenger in the theft, but did not see him actually take the pouch, the report stated.
