Crime Brief: Teens Ask Ice Cream Truck Driver for Ride Then Steal His Money

Two 17-year-old boys asked an ice cream truck driver for a ride to a New Baltimore park and then swiped his cash inside the vehicle, this week.

At about 8 p.m. July 12, driver from Captain Cool Ice Cream company said the teens were walking in Stratford Estates subdivision and asked him for a ride to . Since the driver was going there to sell ice cream, he gave them a lift, according to a police report.

While en route, one of the teens stood near the driver to block his view of his friend stealing about $86 from his cash box. The driver didn't notice the missing cash until after he dropped them off at the park and was going to make change when selling ice cream. When the teens saw him coming their way to confront them, they ran off, the report stated.

The suspects fled to a nearby subdivision, where a resident on Fox Hill noticed one of them hiding behind bushes and another on his cell phone getting a ride from a friend while she was watering her plants. After talking to multiple witnesses, police identified the suspects and went to their homes in the area. Police retrieved the money from the ice cream truck and returned it to the owner, the report stated.

The teens were booked on larceny from a vehicle charges and released, pending authorization of warrants, police said.
