When Jabalee, who was acquitted in 2010 by a Macomb County jury, asked Monday what he could do to help, Wiley said he told him he could donate to the reward fund, like he previously did.

"He said he would make some kind of contribution," Wiley said.

Broad said contributions are confidential, but they remain in a trust fund for one year. After that, the donor can choose for Crime Stoppers to keep the money as rewards or get it back. At one point, the reward money reached a record $220,000 from about 50 people. However, the original rewards have all since been returned.

"I think the Jabalees were very well-respected in New Baltimore and here is a couple at home—where you think you're safe—and they were brutally murdered," he said of the reason why he thinks so many donations initially flowed in.

The case is an open investigation, with police seeking fresh leads.

"The family is anxious to find out who is responsible for killing Mr. and Mrs. Jabalee," Broad said.
