Man Accidentally Shoots Himself, Blank Check Snatched From Shopper and More

Gun owner injured

A 26-year-old Chesterfield Township man accidentally shot himself in the evening of Aug. 17 while trying to show his girlfriend how to handle and clean a gun, according to police. 

The man was rushed from his home at the 48300 block of Harbor to a local hospital, where he was treated for a groin wound. His injury was not life-threatening, police said. 


Meijer shopper's check snatched 

A female shopper at Meijer on 23 Mile and Gratiot reported to police that someone stole a blank check from her purse around 2 p.m. Aug. 19 as she stood in the checkout line, according to police. 

She told authorities she later was informed by her bank that the check had been filled out and cashed by an unknown person. Police are continuing to investigate. 

Dog bites girl

An 11-year-old Roseville girl was bit by a dog while she walked down Yorktown around noon Aug. 17, police said. 

The dog was on a leash when the incident took place, but the owner told police she was not aware the animal could reach the sidewalk from the property. It was not immediately clear if the girl had to receive any medical treatment for the bite. The report was forwarded to Macomb County Animal Control.
