Preliminary Exam for Accused Bank Robber This Week

A Chesterfield Township man accused of robbing a credit union late last month is scheduled to appear this week in 42-2 District Court for a preliminary exam.

Michael Boshell, 41, was for the March 23 theft at Genisys Credit Union on Gratiot south of 23 Mile. Boshell was originally scheduled to have a preliminary exam April 2 in the New Baltimore court. However, the exam was postponed to 9 a.m. Thursday because his lawyer requested more time for discovery, said Monday.

His girlfriend Cara Tamer, 28, of Chesterfield, will also have a preliminary exam at the same time on a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property more than $1,000 from the robbery. Police said Tamer used money that Boshell gave her to buy the couple cell phones.

Boshell is accused of passing a note to a Genisys Credit Union teller and fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. Chesterfield police, along with units from Michigan State Police and Macomb County Sheriff's Office, eventually found him inside Green Roof Motel at 49250 Gratiot, police said.

After initially denying involvement, Boshell then confessed to robbing the credit union. A search warrant was later executed inside the motel room, where officers retrieved money and clothing from the robbery, Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said.
