Three Men Accused of Robbing Woman at Gunpoint in Chesterfield

The men from New Haven and Harrison Township were charged Tuesday via video in 42-2 District Court, police said.

Three men face felony charges after they allegedly robbed a 32-year-old woman at gunpoint Monday night in Chesterfield Township, said Tuesday.

The suspects were arraigned Tuesday via video in in New Baltimore.

  • Jalen Felix, 19, of New Haven was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, felony firearm, receiving and concealing a stolen firearm. Felix could face up to life imprisonment upon conviction. He was held on a $250,000 cash bond.
  • Barron Dukes, 18, of Harrison Township was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearm. Dukes could also face up to life behind bars upon conviction. He was held on a $250,000 cash bond as well.
  • Anthony Anderson, 18, of New Haven was charged with unarmed robbery and could face a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted. Anderson was held on a $50,000 cash bond.

According to Chesterfield Detective Sgt. Deron Myers, the charges stem from an incident around 10 p.m. Monday when a Clinton Township woman got off a bus at Cotton and Gratiot. She told police that as she began walking eastbound on Cotton, she heard footsteps behind her. She walked faster and attempted to call 911 with her cell phone, but didn't have time to place the call because three men approached her from behind.

She told police one of the men asked her for a cigarette and, as she fumbled in her purse for one, a man later identified by police as Felix pressed a .32-caliber revolver between her eyes and demanded money. She begged for him not to shoot and told him she has children. One of the individuals grabbed her purse from her shoulder and snatched her wallet before they fled, police said.

With the help of the township's K-9 officer, Bulzi, a police officer found the suspects in the Gratiot and 23 Mile area. When confronted, Felix allegedly began reaching for his backpack on the ground and ignored police commands to set the backpack down. When the officer drew his weapon, Felix ran from the scene. Bulzi then tracked his scent where he hid alongside a nearby Chase Bank branch, Myers said.

Police recovered the gun, which had been reported stolen out of St. Clair County, and the victim's wallet.

All three of the suspects have prior convictions on their records; some may stem from when they were minors. None of those crimes are believed to be violent or serious like this one, police said.
