In Video: New Baltimore Reserves Sworn In

Kick-starting the reinstated police reserve unit, three new officers join the force.

Three were welcomed to the police force Monday night at the New Baltimore City Council meeting.  Reserve unit leader Sgt. Tom Cuthbertson introduced the volunteer officers before they were officially sworn in by Clerk Marcia Shinska. Along with Cuthbertson, a retired veteran of the department, the reserves are expected to be joined by five others next year. "This is an exceptional group of people," Cuthbertson said at a reception for the reserves and several new cadets. New Baltimore resident Patrick Wisniewski, an active-duty Air National Guard military police officer, said he was excited to learn Chief Tim Wiley reinstated the program after its decade-long hiatus. "I jumped at the opportunity," Wisniewski said. He credited his wife, Jennifer, for supporting his decision to become a reservist as well as holding down the fort with five children through three deployments, including several months in Iraq a year ago.
