Volunteers Demo New Baltimore-Owned Garage

North Shore Church and Grosso Trucking, along with city Building Official Greg Nikkel, demolished the garage behind the former Christie-Olszewski Funeral Home.

Volunteers got their hands dirty earlier this month to save New Baltimore money by tearing down an old, city-owned garage.

, church members, Steve and Jake Grosso of Grosso Trucking in Ira Township and Waste Management pitched in to remove the structure behind the old Christie-Olszewski Funeral Home, City Building Official Greg Nikkel, who was also on site for the demolition, said Monday.

Nikkel said he and the crew of helpers had a good time working together on the project.

Councilwoman Florence Hayman commended the group during the last city council meeting.

Steinle, who does disaster relief work across the country and overseas, did the city demo project before heading back to Haiti, city officials said.

Nikkel has been tasked with evaluating the . He said Monday he will present his findings to the city in the near future.

The inspection comes at a time when and constructing another funeral home on the property at Maria and Main streets.
